Mangoes are natures’ way of helping us tide over the sweltering heat; a sweet treat loaded with nutrients, making every summer day count! While there are a ton of recipes that can be prepared with this king of fruits, our #FitKitchen has curated a few of the absolute favorites for you to try. These recipes will replenish the salts one loses from sweating and helps regulate body temperature when the outside is too hot to handle.

Aam Panna

Ingredients list: (Serves 2 people)

  • 3 raw mangoes (medium sized) or 2 large mangoes
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar or jaggery powder
  • ½ tsp common salt
  • ½ tsp rock or pink salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper powder
  • ¼ tsp roasted jeera powder
  • 7-10 mint leaves
  • 2 large glasses water, chilled (to preference)
  • Ice cubes
  • Few mango slices for garnish (optional)

Procedure : 

  • Place the mangoes in a deep bottomed pressure cooker. Cover it with enough water, about half a finger above the mangoes
  • Pressure cook the mangoes for 5-6 whistles
  • Once the steam has been released open the pressure cooker and take the mangoes out
  • Peel off the mango skin and squeeze out the soft pulp. Set it aside
  • Take 2 tbsp of water in a blender. Add the mango pulp, salt, sugar (if mango is too tangy), rock salt, 4-7 mint leaves, and jeera powder. Blend the mixture well
  • Mix the sugar into the cold water until it dissolves
  • Take 1 cup of this sweetened water and pour it into the blender. Add the Alfalfa powder, lime juice and salt to the blender and give it a whir till all ingredients are blended
  • Add chilled water to this mango pulp mixture. Add ice cubes (optional)
  • Pour the aam panna into a tall glass and garnish with mint leaves, and a slice of mango
  • Enjoy this refreshing sweet drink and beat the heat!

Aam Ras

Ingredients list: (Serves 2 people)

  • ½ kg ripe mangoes
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (or jaggery) as per taste
  • ½ cup chilled water
  • Pinch of pink salt
  • Mango slices and cashews for garnish (optional)

Procedure : 

  • Clean the mangoes under water to eliminate the excessive heat. Peel and chop the mangoes while discarding its stone
  • In a blender place 2 tbsp of water. Add the chopped mangoes and the sugar or jaggery, adjusting its quantity based on the sweetness of the mangoes
  • Blend the mixture together
  • Add ½ cup chilled water and give the mixture another whir in the blender
  • Pour the contents into a medium sized container and place it over ice to keep it chilled
  • Add salt and stir well. Garnish with mango slices and cashews before serving
  • For an authentic experience, pair this with hot fried pooris or with rotis or rice and enjoy some mango love!

Mango Spritzer

Ingredients list: (Serves 2 people)

  • 1 large mango
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar (or jaggery) as per taste
  • ½ tsp pink salt
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup soda water
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • Mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Procedure:

  • Peel the mango and remove the pulp while discarding the stone
  • In a blender add 2 tbsp of water, the mango pulp, sugar or jaggery powder (as per taste), lemon juice, pink salt and the cumin powder
  • Give this mixture a whir till all ingredients have blended
  • Separate the pulp into two individual glasses
  • Top the glasses with the bubbly soda water and mix the contents with a cocktail spoon
  • Garnish with mint leaves and serve the spritzer chilled
  • The spritzer is best paired with aloo chat, samosa chat, and pav bhaji; merging mango lovin’ goodness with some of the street food favorites!
